Wheaton men's tennis plays at ITA Regional

St. Louis, Mo. – The Wheaton College men's tennis team opened their season over the weekend as four players participated in the 2009 Wilson/ITA Central Regional hosted by Washington (Mo.) University.

Wheaton had two people play in the ITA Singles Draw. Taylor Johnson beat Joe Unger (Kalamazoo) 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 and then lost to Noah Swiler (DePauw) 6-4, 6-2.

Joel Parrish got two wins as he beat Dave Douglass (Elmhurst) 6-2, 6-3 and Brandon Luttinger (Ohio Wesleyan) 2-6, 6-1, 6-1. Parrish's run was ended by Michael Rardon (DePauw) 6-2, 6-0.

In ITA Doubles Draw, Miles Greenwald and Taylor Johnson lost their first round matchup to Thomas Piskacek and Jeremy Polster (Kenyon) 8-3.

In the St. Louis Collegiate Singles Draw, Miles Greenwald played two matches as he beat Lewis Towne (Wabash) 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 and lost to Brian DeMaagd (Calvin) 6-3, 2-6, 1-0.

David Stephens won a pair of matches with wins over Ryan Leslie (Ohio Wesleyan) 6-3, 6-3 and Philip Reinken (Calvin) 6-4, 7-6. He lost his next match to David Moss (DePauw) 6-2, 3-1 (retired).
