Women's golf finishes third at the Carthage Invitational; Bronson takes second place

Bristol, Wis.
– The Thunder women's golf team finished third out of six teams on Monday at the Carthage Invitational, hosted by Carthage College under windy and cold conditions at the Bristol Oaks Country Club. Wheaton's next event is the 2009 CCIW Women's Golf Championship this Friday and Saturday at Highland Park Country Club in Highland Park, Illinois.

UW-Whitewater won today's event with 347 strokes, Carthage was second with 350, Wheaton was a stroke behind with a 351 in third place, Carthage's junior varsity team was fourth with a 369, Elmhurst and Judson each shot a 396 to tie for fifth place.

Carthage's Heidi Hoffman shot an 82 to win medalist honors. Wheaton senior Brittany Bronson finished second with an 83, followed by Chelsea Davis of UW-Whitewater with an 84 in third place and Emily Kuiper was fourth with an 85. Wheaton head coach Jay Martin noted, "Brittany had a great round. She battled through the wind and some really brutal conditions today."

Wheaton junior Rachel Beveridge shot an 88 to tie for ninth place. Sophomore Debby Bouzeos carded an 89 in a tie for 12th place, Kate Ryan shot a 91 in 15th place, while Sarah Moore shot a 93 in 18th place. Freshman Rachel Carlson was among three Wheaton players to compete as individuals. She finished 24th with a 97.
