Women's golf finishes second at the Elmhurst Bluejay Classic

Oak Brook, Ill. - The Wheaton College women's golf team finished in second place at the 10-team Elmhurst College Bluejay Classic, at Oak Brook Golf Club on Tuesday.

Lewis University won the tournament with a score of 326. Followed by Wheaton's 333, St. Francis (Ill.) finished third with a 336, Carthage shot a 351 in fourth place and North Central carded a 356 in fifth place.

There was a three-way tie for first place among individuals as Liz Zimmer (Lewis), Allison Snyder (Lewis) and Vicky McGowan (St. Francis) each shot 81. Wheaton's Rachel Beveridge shot an 82, with a 42 on the front-nine and 40 on the back-nine to finish in fourth place.

Sophomore Debby Bouzeos shot an 83 in ninth place, Casi Blanton and Brittany Bronson both tied for 10th place, as each player shot an 84. Kate Ryan tied for 12th with an 85 and Rachel Carlson carded a 92 in a tie for 28th.

Wheaton will travel to the Bethel College (Ind.) Classic next weekend for the two-day event. This weekend's event is the first of three events to conclude the fall season for the Thunder. On Monday Sept. 28 the squad will compete in the "Carthage Fall Classic" as the team prepares for its final event of the fall - the two-day CCIW Championship on October 2-3. Head coach Jay Martin noted after today's tournament, "We played well enought to win today." He added, "Hopefully we are building up to the CCIW Championship so we are prepared to compete for a conference title."
