Wheaton water polo goes 1-2 at Midwest Invitational

Hannah Veldt scored six goals over three matches on Friday
Kenosha, Wis. - The Wheaton College water polo team played three matches and went 1-2 on Friday at the Midwest Invitational hosted by Carthage College.

The Thunder ran their record to 5-11 on the season.

In the first match of the day, Washington & Jefferson edged Wheaton 9-8. The score was tied 5-5 at the half way mark.

Hannah Veldt led the Thunder scoring with three goals, Emma Higgins scored two while Amanda Adams and Heather Crockett totaled one goal each.

Macalester College avenged last week's loss to Wheaton with a 10-4 victory in the second match. The Scots held a 6-1 lead at the half.

Veldt led the scoring again with two goals while Higgins and Adams tallied the other two.

The Thunder captured the final match of the night with a 7-2 win over Penn State Behrend. Wheaton led 6-1 after two periods.

Crockett led the way with three goals in a balanced effort that saw one goal for Veldt, Camille Abernathy, Allison Marshall and Tricia Fallon.

The Midwest Invitational concludes on Saturday as Wheaton will play matches at 10:15 AM and 4:00 PM.
