Wheaton water polo wins two in Wheaton Invitational

Wheaton, Ill. - The Wheaton College water polo team only needed to go in the pool once to pick up two wins on Saturday. The Thunder defeated Macalester College 8-5 and won via forfeit against Illinois Wesleyan University to wrap up the two-day Wheaton Invitational.

The Thunder improved their record to 4-8 on the season. They finished 2-2 at the Wheaton Invite while Cal State East Bay went 4-0, Loyola went 1-1 and Carthage College and Macalester both finished 1-2.

Wheaton did not have to play its first match as IWU forfeited due to absence from the invite. The Thunder played in the last match of the day against Macalester and won 8-5.

Wheaton scored four goals in the first period to take control and held Macalester at bay. Heather Crockett had another strong day with four goals. Amanda Adams, Emma Higgins, Hannah Veldt and Caroline Hannema all added one goal each in the match.

In the day's other matches, Cal State East Bay beat Macalester College 11-5, Cal State East Bay defeated Loyola 16-5, Macalester beat Carthage College 4-2, and Loyola defeated IWU via forfeit.

The Thunder continue their season next weekend at the Midwest Invitational hosted by Carthage College.
