Wheaton, Ill. – Wheaton College senior Ben Panner has been named the CCIW “Player of the Week” in men's basketball for the week ending December 6.
Panner helped lead Wheaton to a 2-1 record last week with victories against University of Chicago and Calvin College. Panner averaged 18.7 points per game, with 2.3 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game. The senior co-captain shot 50% (5-10) from three-point range, and he had an 82.6% (19-23) effort from three-point range.
Panner tied his season-high with 29 points, six rebounds and four assists in a 74-69 victory against Calvin last Saturday. He shot 60% (9-15) from the field, with four three-point field goals in the victory against the Knights. In a 72-54 victory against University of Chicago last Wednesday he scored 15 points for the Thunder.
Panner is averaging 18.5 points per game over Wheaton's six games this season. He is shooting 50% (38-76) from the field, with a 40.9% (9-22) from three-point range and 83.9% (26-31) at the free throw line. He is currently ranked fifth in the CCIW in scoring and is eighth in the conference in both free throw percentage and three-point field goal percentage.
Panner has started every game for Wheaton since joining the program in the 2006-07 season. The veteran is 33rd in school history with 1,133 career points and he is 10th on the school's all-time three-pointers list with 130 in his career.
