Brian McMullen has been recognized as a CCIW “Player of the Week” on defense for his efforts in leading the Thunder to a 38-7 victory against Elmhurst College last Saturday. Wheaton (7-1/4-1) is ranked 12th in
this week's D3football.com Top-25.
McMullen, a safety for the Thunder, recorded nine total tackles, including four solo stops in keying a Wheaton defense that held Elmhurst just 196 of offense. McMullen intercepted a Bluejay pass in the game and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown and he also recorded two tackles for lost yardage (-2 yards).
McMullen is third on the Thunder defense with 41 total tackles this year, including a team-best 9-1/2 tackles for lost yardage (-19 yards). McMullen has intercepted two passes this season (30 yards), with a pass break-up, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
