Coldwater, Mich. - With a medalist effort from
Chase Yacko, the Wheaton College men's golf team won by nine strokes at the seven-team Taylor Made/Adidas Collegiate Series Invitational on Tuesday.
The Thunder played 36 holes on the day at the Golf Club of Coldwater and led by seven strokes after the first round.
Wheaton used scores of 309-315 for a total of 624 to earn the victory. The other team finishers included Owens Community College (633), College of Mount St. Joseph A team (637), Mount St. Joseph B team (648), Glen Oaks Community College (648), Holy Cross (Ind.) (669) and Goshen College (701).
Yacko led the way with a first round score of 73 and a second round of 76 to take the medalist honors with a total of 149.
Dan Downey carded 75-80-155,
Steven Moore shot 80-76-156,
Bobby Tunberg tallied 81-87-168 and
Jonny Tink added 86-83-169.
The Thunder also brought three Individuals to the one-day invite.
Bryan Sandvig shot 80-81-161,
Greg Richardson compiled 87-84-171 and
Ben Meyer finished with 87-86-173.
"Conditions were tough," Wheaton head coach Jay Martin said. :There was a little bit of rain in the first round. In the second round, they battled mist and rain and the wind picked up. I'm pleased we had some good scores in these conditions. Chase had an outstanding day. He's really been playing well and consistent lately. Dan and Steven had respectable rounds today. Anytime you're shooting in the 70s in these conditions, you can be pleased with your day."
