Highland Park, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan University maintained its CCIW win streak as the Wheaton College women's golf team took second place in the CCIW Championship on Saturday.

The Titans won the CCIW for the eighth-straight season with a final team score of 665 (338-327) at the par-71 Highland Park Country Club. They are followed by Wheaton College (672), Millikin University (721), North Central College (725), Carthage College (727), Elmhurst College (743) and Augustana College (780). North Park University did not record a team score.

The Thunder placed four players in the top 10, who all earned All-Conference honors as a result. The four selections are a Wheaton school record.

Brittany Bronson led the way with a 78-86-164 to take third place individually and earn an All-Conference selection for the third time in her career. Teammates who joined her on the All-Conference team included Debby Bouzeos in fourth place (82-83-165), Casi Blanton in eighth place (88-82-170) and Rachel Beveridge in 10th place (88-85-173). Kate Ryan added a 93-93-186 and Sarah Moore finished with 106-94-200.

Despite adverse, rainy conditions, Wheaton kept its composure and carded low scores throughout the weekend.

Jay Martin
"Overall we handled the elements pretty well," Wheaton head coach Jay Martin said. "That's the closest finish we've had since I've been coach. Illinois Wesleyan is ranked in the top 10 in the country, and we showed we have the potential to beat them. We've closed the gap and the team believes we can play at that level."

Wheaton came within seven strokes of IWU, marking the closest second-place finish to the Titans since 2004 when Carthage finished 30 strokes behind.

Saturday marked Wheaton's third-straight runner-up finish at the CCIW Championships. Martin was named CCIW Coach of the Year for the second year in a row.

“It's a great statement about the growth of our program," Martin said of the honor. "I take it as respect for our program. This past year has been a really special year with our third-straight runner-up finish, having four all-conference golfers, and our trip nationals in the spring. Hopefully it points us to bigger and better things ahead. I'm grateful to all my peers for the recognition.”
