Hanover, Ind. – Wheaton College was well represented on Saturday at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships. The Thunder women's cross country team finished in 25th place and two members of the Thunder men's team competed as individuals in the men's championship. Senior Brandon Mull closed out his remarkable Thunder career with a fourth-place finish in the men's race.

The Thunder women's team, making its first appearance since 1999, finished 25th out of 32 competing teams on the 6K course on the campus of Hanover College. Senior Lisa Baumert (PICTURED RIGHT) was the top finisher for the Thunder as she finished 66th in 279-woman field with a time of 22:09.59. Sophomore Jennifer Parisi posted a time of 22:45.31 to finish 138th and fellow sophomore Sara Greeley ran a time of 22:58.26 in 159th-place. Junior Sarah Beasley was 196th in 23:18.22 and senior Brooke Zeller finished in 23:24.58 for 211th place. Head coach Scott Bradley said of his women's team, “We had a pretty good day, it was a solid team performance.”

Mull, who finished ninth at last year's Division III Championship to earn All-American accolades, repeated as an Division III All-American with his fourth-place finish on Saturday. Mull posted a time of 24:36.23 to finish fourth in the 278-man field. Peter Kosgei of Hamilton won the men's event with a time of 24:22.03, Willy Kaul of UW-Oshkosh finished second in 24:32.67 and Wartburg's Brian Chenowith took third in 24:34.04. Mull's fourth-place effort is the highest finish by a Wheaton runner since Dan Henderson won the 1980 NCAA Division III Championship. He also becomes the second Wheaton runner to repeat as an All-American, joining Bill Kabasenche who was a two-time All-American in the 1993 and 1994 seasons. Bradley noted of the two-time All-American, “Brandon ran a great race. He did everything he had to do today. He was strong today, he had a great season and also a great career.”

Thunder junior Brian Wurtz (PICTURED LEFT) ran well with a time of 25:14.94 to finish in 53rd place in the Men's Championship race. Bradley noted, “Brian did a good job. He got a little too far back in the beginning and came on really strong later in the race. He'll have another chance to earn All-American, he'll be our leader next year.”
